One of my childhood fantasies has come to fruition. Newsies is on broadway! That’s right! I’ve eagerly anticipated the Tony’s for the first time ever because I knew that Newsies would be performing, as well as the cast from Once (one of my all time favorite movies that is now on Broadway too). The clip below shows just a glimpse of this awesome musical. It will also come as no surprise that the choreographer for Newsies won the Tony. I would, however, like to sincerely apologize for the fact that this clip is from The View. Whoopi Goldberg’s brief appearance in the end almost ruined it for me. For me the cast of The View = a lot of people’s reactions to clowns. No thank you! Anyway, I digress. Enjoy Newsies!
So, now, onto Once. Once is a musical that takes place in Dublin. Naturally, I loved the film because:
A. It takes place in Ireland. Ireland contains about a sixth of my heart.
B. The opening scene of the movie takes place on Grafton Street and then onto St. Stephen’s Green. Two locales that I’m very familiar with.
C. The score for both the play and movie were written by Glen Hansard and Marketa Irglova. I’m sure that the cast and crew of the Broadway play are amazing, but I will always prefer to listen to Glen and Marketa.
D. Oh, these lyrics, I love them. As a matter of fact, there is an 87% chance that at any given time this soundtrack will be playing on my iPOD. “…So plant the thought and watch it grow
Wind it up and let it go.”
Last night Once won many Tony’s including Best Musical!
